
Bollywood’s horror genre has been lacking for quite a while now.

While the industry has been delivering well in the horror-comedy genre with films like Stree 2 and Munjya, the market for pure horror films has been consistently underwhelming.
The genre seems to be running out of creative ideas, repeating the same gimmicks, eerie background music, dull lighting, and mostly failed attempts at jump scares.

The recently released Chhorii 2 on Prime Video unfortunately met the same fate.
The film revolves around Sakshi, who must rescue her seven-year-old daughter, Ishani, after she is abducted by a dangerous underground tribe.

Despite the strong foundation laid by the first film, Chhorii 2, like most Bollywood sequels, failed to live up to the hype.
While a few scenes showed potential, much of the film felt repetitive and uninspired.
The horror genre has so much untapped potential. But right now, the industry is overly focused on the technical aspects- eerie music, dim lights, and strange noises, thinking that alone makes a film scary.
The psychological side of horror, which can leave a deeper and more lasting impact on the audience, remains largely unexplored.
The Bhootni, another upcoming horror film starring Sanjay Dutt and Mouni Roy, is set to release later this year, and there’s a good chance it might suffer the same fate.
If Bollywood wants to create truly memorable horror films, it needs to move beyond spooky music and dim lighting. The focus should be on storytelling, atmosphere, and psychological depth.
