Tamil Audiences Attack Dhurandhar OTT: Such Big Blunder?

Dhurandhar Netflix OTT criticism

Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar directed by Aditya Dhar released in theatres on December 5th and turned into a massive blockbuster. The film crossed more than 1300 crores worldwide, making it one of the biggest Indian successes in recent times.

Though the film had only a Hindi theatrical release, the makers later decided to expand its reach on OTT. The movie was released in five languages including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi for streaming audiences.

Dhurandhar began streaming on Netflix from January 30th in all five languages. From the very first day, many viewers complained about muted profanities and poor colour grading in the OTT version. These issues affected the overall viewing experience.

Netflix later updated the video quality and tried to fix the colour grading. However, many viewers still feel the film looks very different on OTT compared to its theatrical version. Several people remain dissatisfied with the final output.

Tamil audiences in particular have criticised the Tamil dubbed version heavily. They feel the dialogues are weak and that the translation failed to deliver the emotional and dramatic impact of the original version.

Some viewers believe this could become a serious problem for the sequel. They argue that if the same mistake continues in the Pan-Indian release, the Tamil version may struggle even if the film performs well in other languages.

Despite all the criticism, Dhurandhar continues to perform strongly on OTT. Reports suggest the film is trending in the top five in several countries and could become the most viewed Indian movie on the platform.

It now remains to be seen whether the team will improve the Tamil dubbing for the sequel. The sequel is scheduled for release on March 19th, and audiences are watching closely how the film performs on Netflix in the coming days.
