Saltburn created quite a buzz with its bold story and picturesque frames, destined to capture fans’ attention. Emerald Fennell’s sophomore film had a short but sweet theatrical run, facing an abrupt cut in its journey as it reaches OTT sooner than anticipated.
Barry Keoghan stars as college student Oliver, drawn into the world of a charming aristocratic classmate (Jacob Elordi) after an invitation to the family’s eccentric estate. The film polarizes audiences and critics, with differing opinions on its cinematography, score, and twists.
Criticism arises over its portrayal of class politics, as some find fault in its failure to effectively critique the upper classes while depicting Oliver, a scholarship kid, as a vampiric con artist.
The film is also well-equipped with a plethora of brave scenes, making it the center of attention for a group of fans. Especially a bathtub scene between Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi is steamy, bold, and controversial.
But why such an early OTT release?
The film’s production expenses remain undisclosed, but this independent release has amassed $9.4 million at the box office, potentially accelerating its transition to streaming. Being an independent project, it doesn’t necessarily hinge on a high box office performance to achieve profitability.
Also, Christmas is coming, and that will definitely help the film boost its views and stats. The holidays will provide a nice jump pad as Prime Video gains the right to stream it.
Stream it on Prime Video from 22nd December, and as you wait, here is the trailer-
