Audience Rejecting Trash: Makers Still in Delusion

Bollywood sequels fail at box office

It appears that audiences are losing interest in sequels and are instead craving fresh, original stories. Recent box office results of War 2 and Housefull 5 suggest that production houses may need to rethink their approach.

Even seasoned actors like Ajay Devgn couldn’t draw crowds this time. His highly anticipated film Singham Again failed to meet expectations. While Raid 2 saw decent numbers, Son of Sardaar 2 was rejected by audiences entirely.

Trade experts and netizens have responded strongly, with many calling these sequels “garbage.” However, Dhadak 2 received some appreciation for its story and performances. Baaghi 4 is currently running in theatres, but the box office figures are far from impressive.

The core issue seems to be poor content selection. Instead of meaningful continuations, producers are picking random subjects for sequels, ignoring audience preferences. What was once a storytelling necessity has now become a business tool.

Even well-made sequels like Kesari Chapter 2 have struggled, showing that the old format where people eagerly went to theatres even on busy days is no longer working.

To regain audience interest, filmmakers may need to bring in new writers and reconnect with the original creative teams that helped deliver previous hits. Also, slashing actor fees and reducing inflated production budgets could help the industry recover.

With more sequels already in production or ready for release, time will tell whether the box office continues to underperform or if a creative shift brings better results in the coming months.
