March 2026 has suddenly become a very important month for Tollywood. After Sankranti, the box office has been dull. February was a terrible month as far as the box office is concerned. Many say February is usually an off-season month, but even with low expectations, the month was a washout for Tollywood. Now, the industry is looking at March with hope. Trade circles believe this month can finally bring back energy to theatres.
The big clash begins on March 19 with Toxic and Dhurandhar 2 releasing on the same day.
Yash, who became a pan India star after the KGF films, is returning with Toxic. The teaser failed to create strong buzz, and the hype as of now is poor. The Telugu rights are reportedly sold for a huge amount, which means the film must get very positive word of mouth to recover costs. Yash’s popularity can still pull decent openings in the Telugu states, but to sustain beyond the first day it will need tremendous word of mouth, as the opposition is the mighty Dhurandhar 2.
Coming to Dhurandhar 2, it arrives with massive recall value. The first film was a historic blockbuster, and even without a Telugu dubbed release, audiences in the Telugu states watched it in Hindi. Even with half decent reviews, it can perform hugely.
Then on March 26 comes Ustaad Bhagat Singh, bringing back Pawan Kalyan and Harish Shankar together after their blockbuster Gabbar Singh.
Expectations are extremely high, but the buzz has been low. We never know, their previous collaboration Gabbar Singh was an out of the blue blockbuster, and Ustaad can repeat the same feat.
Alongside these big films, several smaller releases are also scheduled. If even one small film connects with audiences, it can help maintain steady theatre footfalls.
In simple terms, March 2026 is not just another release month. It feels like a turning point. If these films click, theatres will come back to life. If not, the struggle will continue. The industry is watching closely.
