Director Koratala Siva, known for blending commercial storytelling with strong social messages, is reportedly facing a shocking phase despite the success of Devara. While the film performed well at the box office, the director is currently struggling to lock his next project, according to industry buzz.
After Devara, many expected the sequel to begin quickly. However, the not-so-great response to the film after its OTT release, where people found many flaws, and Jr. NTR being occupied with multiple big budget pan India projects, including Dragon with Prashanth Neel, have slowed things down. As a result, Devara 2 currently looks difficult, leaving Koratala with an unexpected gap.
Reports suggest that during this period, Koratala approached several top stars, including Nandamuri Balakrishna and Pawan Kalyan. However, neither project reportedly moved forward. Balakrishna is said to be focusing on collaborations with younger directors and experimental scripts, while Pawan Kalyan is prioritizing his political commitments and already committed films. They also reportedly did not like Koratala’s scripts.
There was also speculation about Koratala working on Naga Chaitanya’s milestone 25th film, but that project did not materialize either. Sources indicate that Koratala is currently not inclined toward working with tier 2 heroes, which has further limited his immediate options.
This situation has placed the director in a dilemma. Once considered one of the most bankable filmmakers with a consistent success streak, Koratala now finds himself waiting for the right opportunity. Trade circles note that it is unusual for a director of his stature to face such delays in finalizing projects. However, the failure of Acharya and the mixed response to Devara have hurt his credibility big time.
For now, the only clear path ahead appears to be waiting for Jr. NTR’s availability and focusing on developing the script for Devara 2 or proceeding with a tier 2 hero on a medium budget film. It would be like starting from scratch for a director of Koratala Siva’s stature, but such is the nature of the industry.
