After the huge successes of The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, many filmmakers thought they had discovered a golden formula to make hits with the lowest budgets: pick a Hindu-focused theme, portray the minority negatively, praise the government, stir up controversy, and boom – a blockbuster is born.
However, this approach has recently led to disappointment. Films like The Vaccine War, Tejas, Hindutva, Ajmer 92, and 72 Hoor failed miserably at the box office. Just in the last fortnight, three more films – Bastar, Razakar, and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar – also turned out to be washouts.
If you remember, Ram Charan ventured into producing The India House starring Nikhil in 2023. He made a grand announcement on Savarkar’s 140th birth anniversary. The film, touted as a pan-India project, would star Nikhil Siddhartha and Anupam Kher.
A 95-second teaser hinting at uncovering a forgotten piece of Indian history, with the tagline “revolution is brewing” was also released. The was to be directed by debutant Ram Vamsi Krishna.
However, there have been no updates about the film’s progress for the past many months. Nikhil also has moved on to other projects like Swayambhu.
Given the recent string of failures in similar films, it remains to be seen if The India House will proceed or if it will be shelved due to the box office fate of such propaganda films.
