At the Red Lorry Film Festival 2026, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma spoke before the screening of his 1990 cult film Shiva. During the interaction he shared updates about upcoming projects and surprised fans with announcements about new films and sequels.
Ram Gopal Varma said he recently returned to Mumbai after a long time and decided it was time for a fresh start. He remarked that his upcoming film Syndicate would help him wash away his past mistakes and shock audiences.
The filmmaker also revealed that he is planning to begin work on Sarkar 4 soon. The announcement created excitement among fans of the popular Sarkar franchise, which has been closely associated with Ram Gopal Varma’s filmmaking style.
Apart from Syndicate and Sarkar 4, another film titled Police Station Mein Bhoot is also in development. The project reportedly reunites Ram Gopal Varma with actor Manoj Bajpayee, along with actresses Genelia Deshmukh and Ramya Krishnan.
While the announcements created curiosity, several social media users pointed out that the filmmaker has struggled to deliver major hits in recent years. Many believe his strongest films were released before 2010.
Some critics also recalled that several films directed by him, including The Attacks of 26/11, Satya 2, 365 Days, and Sarkar 3, did not perform well at the box office and failed to impress critics.
One user also mentioned that in 2018 Ram Gopal Varma released a video titled God, Sex, and Truth featuring American adult star Mia Malkova in Europe. At the time he described the project as a thought provoking experience.
Others pointed out that the filmmaker has made controversial comments about celebrities such as Sri Devi, Tiger Shroff, Pawan Kalyan, and Karan Johar. Such remarks often triggered debates and criticism within the film industry.
With a mixed track record over the past decade, many analysts and audiences are questioning whether Ram Gopal Varma can recreate the impact of films like Rangeela or Satya through his new projects.
Even though some people see his latest statements as a publicity move, fans of his earlier cult films remain hopeful. Many are waiting to see if Syndicate and Sarkar 4 can mark a meaningful comeback for the director.
