We have seen many big directors faltering in the post-Covid OTT era.
Rajkumar Hirani, Koratala Siva, Trivikram Srinivas, Parasuram, Ali Abbas Zafar, Rohit Shetty, Surender Reddy, and Puri Jagannadh, many more.
Now add one more name to the list: Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Bhansali is one of the most epic directors of Indian cinema. He is a genius when it comes to crafting drama, romance, and melancholy with opulence in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Padmaavat, and Bajirao Mastani. But he has faltered this time.
While his previous film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, received moderate success largely due to Alia Bhatt’s stellar performance, it lacked the usual depth expected from a Bhansali creation.
However, his latest offering Heeramandi on Netflix has turned out to be a huge fiasco.
Critics and viewers alike have dubbed it the “Bigg Boss Of Prostitutes,” marking it as perhaps his weakest work to date.
Those who invested 7 precious hours of their lives watching Bhansali’s latest prostitute drama series are expressing their frustration and cursing Bhansali.
Netflix must be reeling from the blow as their 200 crore investment in Heeramandi goes up in smoke.
Bhansali urgently needs to break free from the confines of his Prostitute universe and explore new creative avenues. It’s high time for him to rediscover himself.
His upcoming project, Love and War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, may offer the opportunity for a fresh start.
