Vallabhaneni Vamsi had a reason to feel relieved at the start of the New Year after the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed police not to arrest him. The order came as a major relief amid speculation of imminent action.
A case was registered against Vamsi at Machavaram police station, accusing him and his followers of attempting to murder a person named Sunil. Following the case, strong rumours suggested that his arrest could happen at any moment.
The High Court’s interim protection proved crucial for Vamsi, who is already out on bail in the Satyavardhan kidnap case and the alleged attack on the TDP central office during the YSR Congress rule.
Despite strong public anger against him, the court restrained his arrest on health grounds. Vamsi had earlier spent 137 days in jail before being released citing medical reasons.
After the Machavaram case was filed, Vamsi reportedly went underground to avoid arrest. It was also claimed that his mobile phone was switched off during this period.
Vamsi later approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. After hearing the matter, the Andhra Pradesh High Court ordered the police not to arrest him, providing temporary relief in the case.
