The Telangana government has announced plans for a grand new landmark as part of the Musi Riverfront Development Project. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has proposed the Gateway of Hyderabad, which will be constructed at the proposed Gandhi Sarovar near Himayat Sagar on the Outer Ring Road. On one side of the ORR, an eco-themed park will be developed, while on the other side towards Bapu Ghat, a massive iconic tower will be built. The two structures will be connected by an elevated gateway, creating a striking welcome point for tourists arriving in Hyderabad.
The CM envisions the Gateway of Hyderabad as a multi-purpose zone built with the latest technology. He has directed officials to develop the area around Bapu Ghat into a world-class attraction and to construct a new flyover from the Himayat Sagar approach road towards Attapur. Gandhi Sarovar will also be developed as a key connective corridor, with direct connectivity planned from the airport. The iconic tower is expected to be the tallest building in the world, and officials have been tasked with studying its feasibility and preparing an action plan.
Alongside these developments, Revanth Reddy has emphasised the need for effective water management in Hyderabad. He has instructed officers to study global models for drinking and stormwater systems under the Musi rejuvenation programme. He has also proposed sourcing drinking water for the city from Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar by constructing a large underground sump. The CM has directed that tenders for the project should be ready within two months, aiming to make Gandhi Sarovar a world-class destination when completed.
