A strange yet emotional story from Bihar’s Gaya district has gone viral. Mohan Lal, a retired officer, faked his own funeral just to find out how many people would actually come to pay their respects while he was still alive.
It sounds dramatic, but his act touches on a feeling many people secretly share. Everyone wonders, at some point, who would show up at their funeral or how much they truly matter to others. Mohan Lal simply decided to find out for himself.
He went to remarkable lengths to stage it. Lal lay inside a coffin, covered himself in a white shroud, and had his “arthi” carried through the streets. A full procession followed, complete with a band and villagers chanting funeral hymns.
Hundreds gathered, some out of curiosity, others out of genuine affection. But to everyone’s shock, Lal suddenly sat up and smiled. He explained that after serving the country for years, he wanted to see who would come to bid him a final farewell.
The event, which spread widely online, struck a chord for its mix of humour and sadness. It revealed a deeper truth about human relationships — how easily people are forgotten once they step away from everyday life.
This unusual act wasn’t just about one man’s curiosity. It was a sharp reminder to value the people around you now, not when it’s too late.
