Adivi Sesh’s action-drama Dacoit is releasing in just a few hours from now. The film has quietly built a decent level of excitement, and both fans and film trade experts are watching closely to see how it performs.
For the past few weeks, the box office has been struggling, especially after the disastrous run of Ustaad Bhagat Singh. Many in the industry are now hoping that Dacoit will bring audiences back to theatres and break this terrible phase.
Dacoit’s advance bookings have shown encouraging signs. While it may not be a fantastic start, it is fine enough to give the film a good opening push.
From a business point of view, Dacoit needs to earn around Rs. 30 crores in share to be called a success. In simple terms, that means roughly Rs. 60-65 crores in total worldwide collections. Early trends suggest the film could open well, and if audiences respond positively after watching it, reaching this target does not look tough. But if the word of mouth comes out average or less, then the film will fizzle out and might not last even till the weekend.
Looking at recent films like Biker and Rakasa, which started well but lost steam quickly. In today’s scenario, word of mouth plays a bigger role than star power. Right now, the Telugu industry needs a film that can hold steady beyond the first weekend. If the film receives unanimously positive reviews, it could dominate the theatres and become the first real crowd puller in recent weeks.
For Adivi Sesh, this is his first major release after HIT 2. There has been a noticeable gap, and audiences now expect something fresh and engaging that justifies the wait. His credibility is also at stake, as he has a reputation for choosing solid content driven films, which adds to the pressure.
For producer Supriya Yarlagadda, this project carries personal significance. She has handled the film independently under Annapurna Studios and SS Creations, without relying on Akkineni Nagarjuna. This makes Dacoit an important test of her ability to deliver a successful film on her own.
Director Shaneil Deo also has a lot to prove. Taking charge of a big action film is not a small responsibility. If the film delivers both technically and emotionally, it could establish him as a reliable filmmaker in the industry.
For Mrunal Thakur, this film comes at a crucial time. After facing a setback with The Family Star, she is looking to bounce back strongly.
On the other hand, if it fails to impress, the dry spell at the box office may continue.
