The trailer for Bollywood’s next sex-comedy “Thank You For Coming” is on the horizon, featuring Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, and Anil Kapoor. This chick flick is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor and directed by Rhea’s husband, Karan Boolani.
The recent release of a new poster has ignited controversy by promising to shed light on women’s pleasure, stating that 50% of women typically don’t experience orgasm during sexual encounters, while over 90% of men experience orgasm.
A section of social media has erupted with outrage, with some condemning the film as vulgar and borderline pornographic. Netizens are criticizing Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur for honoring Ekta Kapoor, the producer of such controversial films, with Padmashri.
Interestingly, Ekta Kapoor’s banner previously produced “Veere Di Wedding,” starring Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, which also was surrounded by controversy and turned out to be a hit. However, in recent years, audiences have been exposed to content that is much more provocative than “Thank You For Coming,” due to the OTT boom. Such films are no longer relevant at the box office.
Paradoxically, the controversies and outrage may actually give some publicity and draw attention and a section of the audience to the film, or else not many even knew such a film exists.
