Director Vamshi Paidipally made his debut in 2007 with Munna starring Prabhas. In his 18-year career, he has directed only six films Munna, Brindavanam, Yevadu, Oopiri, Maharshi, and Varisu. Interestingly, all of them featured top stars in the lead.
Vamshi Paidipally’s career has followed a clear pattern. He prefers star-driven projects and has never shown interest in working with new or mid-level actors. For him, it has always been about big heroes or no film at all.
It has been more than two years since Varisu released, and he still hasn’t announced his next project. Though he hasn’t faced any major flops, he also hasn’t gained the creative respect that other star directors enjoy. Most leading Telugu and Tamil stars are already busy, and sources say few are keen to team up with him right now.
To break this streak, Vamshi Paidipally tried approaching Bollywood. He reportedly held talks with Aamir Khan, who initially agreed but later stepped back. He then approached Salman Khan, but that too didn’t work out.
Industry talk now suggests that Vamshi is planning a film with Pawan Kalyan. Producer Dil Raju, who has backed all his previous films, reportedly has dates with Pawan. If the actor approves the script, the project might finally take off.
However, questions about Vamshi Paidipally’s creative relevance remain. At a time when new-age filmmakers are experimenting with storytelling and fresh genres, his style still feels rooted in the early 2000s. His films often repeat the “hero as savior” theme a tried-and-tested formula that no longer excites audiences.
While his movies have done fairly well at the box office, none have left a lasting mark or given stars iconic roles. No wonder Trollers often call him an “outdated director with star dependency.” With Aamir and Salman already turning him down, all eyes are now on Pawan Kalyan will he take the risk or steer clear of another formula-bound saga?
