A few days ago, T-Series released a new music video titled “Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai”, featuring Varun Dhawan, Rajkummar Rao, Arshad Warsi, and Vikrant Massey. The video took everyone by surprise and soon after, the backlash began.
Many fans criticised the actors for appearing in what they saw as a political song, with several saying they would skip their future projects. But while that outrage settled, a stronger reaction started spreading online.
Users began posting edited videos showing potholes, broken roads, and garbage piles all synced to the same “Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai” track. These clips have gone viral across platforms like X, Instagram, and YouTube, turning into a major social trend.
In response, reports suggest that the BJP government and T-Series are preparing to issue copyright strikes against accounts using the song to highlight government failures.
Many users believe the song was part of a pre-election PR campaign by the ruling party, meant to create a positive image ahead of the Bihar elections. But now, that campaign appears to have backfired.
People online say the government is trying to silence criticism instead of addressing real issues. They argue that public money went into promoting leadership through songs and ads yet now, citizens are being warned for using the same tune to show the truth.
The situation has sparked a wider debate about freedom of expression. Citizens say that if the same videos had praised the Prime Minister, there would be no problem. But because they highlight failures, censorship has entered the scene.
India is a democracy, people remind the government. Criticism is part of freedom and no matter how tightly control is attempted, voices of the people will always rise louder.
