The steep prices of tomato has made it a rare commodity in most of the Indian households. With a kilo of tomato costing as high as ₹240-260, people have been forced to cut it out of their recipes. People are doing anything to get cheaper tomatoes. A post is going viral on Twitter that shows residents of a housing society in Noida queuing up to get tomatoes at a cheaper rate.
What’s more surprising is that this happened in one of the elite and posh housing societies of Noida. Residents can be seen queuing up behind a truck that is loaded with tomatoes. This shows the seriousness of the issue of the cost of tomatoes. Some Twitter users are also complaining about it citing how much these residents pay for housing.
The price of tomatoes has not only affected the common households in the country but also businesses like restaurants and catering. Even the food giants like McDonald’s were forced to take tomatoes out of their burgers. The government has decided to import tomatoes from Nepal to ensure enough supply. This move is aimed at lowering the price of the vegetable.
