T20 World Cup: Pak U-turn, India Match Confirmed?

India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match

After days of uncertainty, the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match has finally been confirmed. Pakistan have withdrawn their boycott threat and will face India on February 15 in Colombo.

The decision came late on Monday after discussions involving the International Cricket Council, the Pakistan Cricket Board, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. ICC chief Jay Shah was also part of the talks.

In an official statement, the Pakistan government said the call was taken after consultations with friendly nations and cricket bodies. This cleared the way for the high-profile clash to go ahead as scheduled.

The ICC later confirmed that the issue was resolved through dialogue. It said all parties agreed to act in the best interest of the game. Earlier, BCB president Aminul Islam had urged Pakistan to play, calling the match vital for world cricket.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan respected the ICC’s position. He added that Pakistan had supported Bangladesh earlier when they raised concerns.

The controversy began after Bangladesh refused to play matches in India following an IPL-related issue involving Mustafizur Rahman. Bangladesh were later replaced by Scotland, after which Pakistan announced a boycott of the India match in support.

Despite this stand, the ICC rejected Pakistan’s demands for increased revenue share and the revival of bilateral series with India. Pakistan were also informed that invoking the Force Majeure clause was not valid.

The ICC warned that a boycott could attract heavy fines and sanctions. Although Pakistan officials initially dismissed the pressure, sustained talks eventually led to a change in stance.

With the dispute resolved, the marquee clash is back on the schedule. India and Pakistan will now face each other on February 15, bringing an end to the off-field drama surrounding the T20 World Cup.
