IND vs ENG: Fearless or Brainless Cricket? ICT’s Nightmare

India batting collapse against England at Trent Bridge

Is this the same Indian T20 team that dominated world cricket under Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav? That question is being asked after England handed India a crushing 125 run defeat at Trent Bridge to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

India were chasing 202 but never looked in control. The openers lost their wickets cheaply, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struggled against England’s short ball strategy, Ishan Kishan failed to build momentum, and captain Shreyas Iyer threw away his wicket with a poor shot.

India collapsed to 52/5 within the first five overs, leaving the chase beyond recovery. The innings ended at just 76 in 11.4 overs, making it India’s biggest defeat by runs in T20I history.

India have dominated T20 cricket over the last four to five years under Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. However, aggressive cricket does not mean reckless batting. Successful run chases also require composure, smart decision making, and responsibility.

The team management will also face tough questions after this performance. Tilak Varma continues to bat out of position and has struggled to make an impact. There is also growing debate over whether Sanju Samson deserves a middle order role. The vice captain’s repeated failures have also raised concerns about his place in the team.

England delivered a complete performance with both bat and ball. Phil Salt scored a brilliant 70 before Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue dismantled India’s batting line-up with a disciplined bowling display.

More than England’s dominance, this defeat highlighted India’s flawed approach. Unless the team responds quickly, the remainder of the series could become a major reality check for the reigning world champions.
