India’s Big Weakness Exposed Before Super 8 Clash

Ryan ten Doeschate Flags India Spin Worry

India have remained unbeaten in the T20 World Cup 2026 so far. However, concerns are growing inside the dressing room. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate admitted that finger spin is troubling the batting unit.

He explained that teams are using India’s left hand heavy lineup to their advantage. The strategy has started to show results. Off spinners, in particular, are finding success against Indian batters.

India’s top order features left handers like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma. Players such as Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh and Axar Patel also bat left handed. This combination has made it easier for finger spinners to attack.

Statistics underline the issue. Spinners have claimed 15 Indian wickets in the tournament. India have scored 315 runs off 42 overs of spin but have not looked comfortable while doing so.

In the previous match, Netherlands off spinner Aryan Dutt bowled a tight spell and picked up two wickets. Even teams like USA and Netherlands managed to slow India down with spin pressure.

Opener Abhishek Sharma’s poor form has added to the concern. He has recorded three ducks in three matches. Early wickets allow opposition spinners to settle quickly and control the game.

The challenge will intensify in the Super 8 stage. India are set to face South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe. These teams possess strong spin options.

South Africa have Keshav Maharaj and Markram in their ranks. West Indies rely on Hosein and Motie. Zimbabwe also use spin as a key weapon.

The coaching staff believe India must adapt quickly. Slow pitches and large grounds are making stroke play difficult. On such surfaces, attacking finger spin requires careful planning.

India continue to win matches, but the weakness is visible. Their scoring rate dips after the powerplay. If the batters fail to handle spin better, the Super 8 stage could become far more challenging.
