Mohammed Siraj’s send-off to Ben Duckett in the 3rd test match at Lord’s has ensured that the Indian pacer gets fined 15% of his match fees as a punishment.
Fair enough, but what happens if that punishment does not apply fairly to everyone, despite the other offence being severely more high-stakes?
Well, that’s exactly what has happened. While Siraj received this hefty punishment for a harmless send-off, Captain Shubman Gill was let go without being charged a dime, despite saying ‘Grow some b*lls’ on live TV.
This has outraged many among the public, who are now demanding to know whether the ICC has started following the ‘Digvesh Rathi’ model of the BCCI, where a few players receive all the punishment while others are let go scot-free.
The ICC, being the apex body of cricket, must ensure that it remains fair to all the players in a justified way, or scrap these rules altogether if they are to be used discriminatorily.
