CBFC vs Haal: Beef Biryani Triggers Legal Battle

Shane Nigam Haal CBFC controversy

Shane Nigam’s upcoming romantic drama Haal has sparked a legal dispute with the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after the board suggested 15 cuts, including one involving a beef biryani scene.

According to the film’s Public Relations Officer, the CBFC asked the makers to remove scenes referring to Dhwaja Pranaman, Sangham Kawal, and a sequence allegedly showing the characters eating beef biryani. However, the makers have denied these claims, stating the film contains no such scene and that the assumptions are baseless.

The CBFC has said the film will receive an ‘A’ certificate if all suggested cuts are made. Challenging this decision, the filmmakers have approached the Kerala High Court.

Earlier, the makers postponed Haal’s release to avoid a clash with Shane Nigam’s other film Balti. JVJ Productions, the official banner for Haal, announced the postponement on Instagram earlier this week. The movie was scheduled to release today but now faces an indefinite delay, leaving fans disappointed.

As the matter reaches the High Court, attention turns to how the law will respond to the CBFC’s strict approach. This isn’t the first time filmmakers have faced such issues; many argue that the board’s outdated rules restrict creative freedom and impose unnecessary cuts.
